I'm Nancy Ferguson McKinney — a designer, communications professional and educator with 30+ years of experience. I help organizations make complex information clear, usable and well-designed.

My career has always come down to the same thing: taking something complicated and making it understandable. Technical writing at IBM. Training and documentation at a Bay Street law firm. Teaching English. Compliance and communications in the insurance industry. And, since 2008, Flink Design — my independent practice.
Whether it's a brand system, a 600-page publication, a tourism map, a website or a compliance document, the work is the same: help people find their way through information, places and systems.
My Philosophy
Everything I design is meant to be used — not stored, not admired, not forgotten. I believe good work should feel calm, considered and human. Not complicated. Not overworked. Just clear.
The Name
Flink comes from the Norwegian word for "motivated, clever and curious" — which captures how I approach every project.
Freelance Folio + the Freelance Studio
I also conceived and developed Freelance Folio, a software platform for Canadian freelancers, and I teach workshops on using AI. Both are by Flink Design.
Who I Work With
Independent professionals, small businesses, associations, municipalities and regional organizations. Much of my work is ongoing — annual publications, long-term client relationships, and projects that evolve over time.
